Second Storeys
$350,000–$500,000 Finalist Category
A 1954 Californian bungalow with genuine character, but a layout that no longer suited a growing family.
The new second storey adds the space they needed while lifting the home’s street appeal. Designed to complement the original architecture, it features exposed rafters, a tiled awning and windows that align with those on the ground floor, a cohesive facade that reads as though it was always there.
Downstairs, the family area was reconfigured for a new Jarrah and MDF staircase, with under-stair storage concealed behind a secret door set into the cladded wall. Upstairs, a master bedroom with ensuite and walk-in robe sits alongside a second bedroom that works equally well as a lounge or study.
